Suffolk born and always most at home in his county
Now retired from a career in design and print, his love of fine art drawing
and painting is focused.
He studied drawing, design and print at Ipswich Art School in High Street,
achieving a Distinction and Upper Pass for graphic design work.
Robert has exhibited his fine art at the 142 Gallery in Felixstowe, in Kensington London,
at Snape, Framlingham and Aldeburgh.
The studio is regularly visited at weekends when open in June as part of the
Suffolk Open Studios collective. The studio is also open at other times by appointment.
He also participates with the Ipswich Visual Arts Community, who help celebrate the heritage of
Ipswich with an annual art trail in the town centre.
An archive of work can also be found on Instagram
(www.instagram.com/garneygarney)
and on the
Suffolk Open Studios website.
Mediums used in his work are usually charcoal or graphite and he loves
to paint in oil. Subjects and themes vary, but a mythological narrative
has dominated his work of late.
A note about the signature: being left-handed, he finds it awkward and
inconsistent to write it cursively with a brush. So he creatively found
another solution.
The name 'Rob', written in shorthand, is
and therefore much simpler to sign.
All work is signed in the conventional manner on the reverse with its
certificate of authentication.
